YR #089 :: Evil Villain Synth Madness - Dr FezzDr Fezz unleashes his first EP upon you and me and, oh shit, are we in trouble. Intense broken beat demons, fluffy and funky, solid synth work with subliminal beat manipulations, filtering, all fused together like a medicine prescription for the sane. Bouncing breaks set the tone and vibe for this four track EP. Nonetheless, an accessible experimental broken beats compilation pushing various alternative dancestyles through the meatgrinder. www.yomirecords.comwww.yomirecords.com/yrtwo/89-ep.htmFeedback more than welcome! Cheers

I listened to the EP only once so this review could change with time I quite like the whole EP and the overall mood, but my favourite track is the last one. You made a really good work with the beats and especially this track has some awsome breaks. But most important for me : it has also awsome melodies and variations. I am sure this is not a coincidence that this last track sums up the whole atmosphere of the EP by putting all the wicked elements inside. The distorted beats and smooth synths reminded me a lot of mu-ziq tracks. But I expected even more variations with the melodies, I must confess... Anywayz thumbs up for this EP, this is good shit mm by the way, the hipo's birthday ends quite oddly, I don't know if it's on purpose or if my download failed.. It's like the hipo has been killed during his birthday or something..

the hippos birthday... I find this track incredibly trebbly, but then that could be the style, Nice little rythym and melody to start the EP with. TO be honest it just aint grabbing me... although it has elements that seem to seep into the brain... how long is this track meant to be cuz it just ends??? If thats how it is meant to be then thats sad cuz it seemed to be gearing into action.
I wanna be a moose Very Square Pusher type of sound... although tends to get a little muddy in areas... Its as if all the samples have been sampled through the same EQ settings or something... I feel the muddy sound doesnt let the music come through as it should... The melody, or lack of melody aint do it for me on this track at all. Maybe its me but I find it tends to lack something... beatwork is kick ass. Nice drilling n stuff. Its like a waterfall of percussion in my brain... with some interesting breaks
Go outside and play This is the peek in my oppinion of the EP... the EP should have been called Go outside and Play as this track the moments it begins seems to have those extra details that the first two tracks lack. Nice n fat juicy middle section with some intersting work on the sounds themselves... funky work on the actual beats themselves that just go completely nuts in my brain but somehow you leash em at that breaking point which is complete control of chaos... nice... Makes the first two tracks forgiving... my only concern is production quality... it seems some sounds are competing with other sounds and ruins what could be pure audio pleasure...
unkynes mediochre beggening... I would have preferred not to hear the wobbly synth in the beggening and focussed purely on the percussion. The synth just gets in the way of what could be a completely outstanding track. Yeah... sorry man but the main synth that starts the track and just sits there pulling the whole track down does nothing in my oppinion. I would drop the vlume completely as for the rest of the instruments and work its outstanding.
Overall remarks Okay. Firstly whats up with the first two tracks? Nowhere near as good as the last two. I am also not big into sound production but I think you needed to review the tracks in terms of volumes. Some sounds and instruments are just WAY to loud and drown out what I think are moments in tracks that get lost. Especially the last track. That wobbly synth man... you didnt need it. I am hoping to hear more soon because I want to hear more which is always a good sign when someone wants to hear more.
er... did any of this make sense?
