plus fah... dont forget IDM doesnt mean anything, im battling for more than a year about learing to ppl that what they think IDM is... IS NOT IDM!!! for exemple, keith303, when criticizing my featherfoil tune, said that finally, he wasnt into that kinda IDM-ish things... ok cosy toboggan is idm? is damn naive glitch pop electronica...... THATS THE REAL DEFINITION.. everyone is sayign that idm is something you can put in a trashcan but what ive learnt is that idm isnt about it... nowadays, ppl hates so much that term, because it says that the music is more intelligent than the other ones, that if they read "idm" on a music review, they wont go to listen to it... "because you see, i dont wanna listen to someone who thinks he's more intelligent than me" ... on the other side, i often meet BUG CUNTS that say "ho i only listen to idm".... poor guy... he thinks it will make him to become intelligent.... thats music... thats scene... all the scene are like that. Even the most UNDERGROUNDZZZZZ0R, ive been, for 15 to 20, interested into the hardcore scene and it was the same there, little scenes in the whole scene, ppl arguing about the fact what they listen to is more violent than what you listen to... music making is all about trends, but actually, the real creative will be those ones that are still making their stuff without taking their head too much (personnaly, i do take my head twice a week and thats enough, except for vizion that is bored of it hard) about ALS, well man, it's hellven, their compo are made for the fun and the real PHUN (with dj nutsack)... if you are willing to participate, go ahead, i wish i could but vizion would kill me

well i still make music that i like making myself ofcourse and really, the Hellven example was an EXAMPLE but yeh we all know it goes like that. People are too cocky to inhale stuff they don't know, like the first time people try weed.... you have to force them, or they will never try it ;D

Well. The problem is that people follow intellectual trends now too. IDM R TAH GHEY now when 3 years ago the same people said that they were IDMerz and shit. its pathetic to me that people can be so elitist yet have such tunnel vision of music and the various scenes.Ultimately, these people won't go down in history or, these people will go to bed with one more existential crisis on their hands. Ultimately, these people will always know that they are fakes and elitists, and wannabes, and neo-artists trying to fit the world around their narrow little minds. Ultimately, the best we can do is be individualist about the music we do and forget about these ''critically acclaimed '' mutherfuckers and their followers. /end of rant

Yeah.. IDM.. I guess some people know wot I think about IDM.. so let's not go there fer now But there's PEOPLE for ya in GENERAL. It matters not where they're from, wot their history is or wot'ever god they may worship.. If people don't KNOW it, they seem to FEAR it. That matters not because, y'know.. And Fah, Kaneel.. you guys listen up man.. YOU DON'T NEED THEM coz in the end THEY WILL NEED YOU We're not in it for the fame and fortune and recognition, exploitation, destruction or ehmmm.. dehydration ;D We're in it for the FUNK, the GROOVE maaan.. We're here for the MUSIC, not for any mass or any underground clubwhore party or elitist scene gangbang. We're here coz we CAN and we're STILL here because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU. And you are not alone. I'd like to quote Vowthorn here and say: It's not the question of what music can do for you but what you can do for music. And if any egotripping crowdhorny chartfukker comes to you and thinks you less for not being downloaded 12000 times, tell him to go fuck himself and his music repetoir. It's about the VIBE.

Wow, boob, we clearly are MANIFESTO WRITERS haha.
By being ' anti-trend' we just end up being a trend of anti-trenders. which is ok, cuz its a trend to try and not be in a trend. It's also trendy to say that trendy people are anti-trend and laugh at their trends.

Can't those multi-part download managers sometimes corrupt download numbers anyway?

I still think IDM is a definite style on it's own. I don't think it's anything garbage music. I believe the reason IDM is "Intelligent Dance Music" must be for some reasons being that many artists from the techno / house scene like AFX moved away from the basic usage of TR-909 / TB-303 and others and went to more of a computer / sample orientation. Being the same people making different music, they had to define a new style name, so they went from the basic techno / house icon to the more interesting IDM image.
As for the more natural sounding international type of IDM, I just think that is the same kind of stuff. DJ's moving from Calypso / jungle / african / tribe music into something more technology oriented and complex is also IDM. They just added some sequencing and samples to their music, and maybe some pads, some extra perc samps, sweeps...
So in such a way I don't think Yomi ever had an IDMish, or anything close to IDM type of release. I would thoàe classify some of the xerxes music as IDM.

well... when they started changing and selling their tr808, it was named Intelligent techno (dixit one of the oldish Warp compilations)... IDM is much more like retriggin' drums over and over again... like a crazy kind of jungle.. just see AFX (not aphex twin) releases i.e. mangle11... or even some tunes by mu-ziq i don't know actually..
ppl call things like BOC as IDM... autechre as IDM... i dont believe they are at all.... but it's always about stickers... i dun wanna be sticked, it's quite dirty after you remove the sticker.

33, if you really define any kind of less "traditional" broken beat genre to be IDM.. Yomi has TONS of IDM releases ..
I don't know the answer to wot IDM is exactly.. All I can say is that the music I was given that was labelled IDM by their creators, didn't go down my throat all that well. Despite that, I dig experimental music in every aspect.. and at first.. IDM (or wot'ever you wanna call what Aphex did around the "birth" of this phenomenomenomenom) wás experimental. I believe it has simply become a more solid definition on its own.
Y'know.. copycats digging wot Aphex did and things have grown from there. Hence IDM's close resemblance to tracne music, as it is simply a trend (like Viz sayd) which people inside certain subcultures need to dig in order to be liked. Just like, I'm afraid, the majority of the current IDM artists.
Correct me if I'm wrong though. But there's ma vision.

Well on my own perspective I truely believe I understand the definition of IDM and really that's all I wanted to state, but I think Kaneel knows some parts about the style that I surely don't, which makes it so vague in the first place because we are dealing more or less with a DJ trend, and we know some DJs play basically any kind of music to please a certain crowd and hype.
In a sense of comfort I would say that I don't really enjoy name calling or trend calling an artist that is a friend because automatically it's like putting someone in "the zone". So in this fashion I have to say that I don't give a f*ck about style naming in absolute reality, BUT, you have to wonder about where (if that ever happens) your music would end up when in CD form at the local HMV, Virgin or whatnot... So in another topic I remember I was stating that some day they will add an IDM section, and SADLY, our music might either end up THERE or in an INDUSTRIAL or ROCK section... Or in some case HIP HOP.
That is basically my tought. Because when you think about it, people really do cathegorize, specially stores and sales people. The reason being that they want to facilitate sales and proximation to what people like.

I have this theory. There is good music and shit music. Now of the good music there are genre's which are usually not created by the artists but rather by the audience. SO for example I listen to 33's first EP and I am thinking... FUCKING WOW cuz I the lame part of my mind is trying to fit it somewhere and it doesnt fit. SO in theory 33 has created a new genre... IDM33 to please the masses? However I am positive that when 33 made the EP he wasnt thinking: oooh this MUST sound like this band or that dude. He probably wrote the music and made it without really thinking of other genres or trying to fit into a certain genre. So what do we have in the end. An ep that might echoe 33's influences... (Aphex Twin comes through) and so it might have that same sound but its not a genre at all. Genre's are marketed by marketing people to sell it. So what was happening is you had WARP records selling a whole wack of STRANGE stuff and you would usually find the stuff all over the place... and eventually they had to make a name so it could sit in one place. I still dont know what the fuck is wrong with calling it Electronic cuz if Autechre and Aphex Twin and Plaid are ALL meant to be IDM then what the fuck is IDM? And who the fuck dances to Autechre? And in all seriousness define Intelligence in music. I like to think of Electronic music as individuals pioneering to where they want to go to and if other people enjoy it then hey... bonus... and if people BUY it then whoa bring on the lesbians. anyways with that said whats everyone relasing in the near future? Curious to know what Fah's up to... And also 33 Hrmm thinking about it whats Meekins up to these days...
